Kayamandi, meaning “nice home” in Xhosa, is a suburb of Stellenbosch founded in the early 1950’s as part of the increased segregation during the apartheid regime. It has a population of around 33,000, where the principal language spoken is Xhosa.
After an insightful walking tour with your local guide, a Xhosa Mama will welcome you in her home and share some of the delicious dishes that Mandela grew up on. Join us and discover the day to day life in Kayamandi and share in the spirit of Ubuntu – ‘I am what I am because of who we all are’.
