West Coast and Wild Flower Tour
Join Cape Adventure Zone for a breathtaking tour of the Cape West Coast wild flowers.
Every year, as the sun rises after the last winter rains, nearly the entire Cape West Coast explodes into a magnitude of vibrant colour, when the Cape West Coast wild flowers finally come into bloom. The Cape West Coast wild flowers are an absolute must see when visiting during the months of August, September and sometimes October too. The Cape West Coast wild flowers exclusively bloom only during spring and are merely an hour’s drive from Cape Town.
You will be collected at 08:00, when we will head along the West Coast shoreline until we reach the West Coast National Park, where you can experience our breathtaking Cape West Coast wild flowers for yourself. This is not a “big five” national park, but you might see a few antelope grazing amongst the blooming wild flowers. And any keen birdwatchers might be interested to know that the West Coast National Park is a world renowned birding site with Ramsar status. Within the park we will visit the historic Geelbek homestead, with its VOC boundary stone dating back to 1785. We’ll take a drive up to the top of Postberg to enjoy the view and visit Kraal Bay. This is a fine beach with 4 metre high Pulpit Rock of shell fragments and quartz sand that dates more than 100 000 years ago. It was once the domain of strandlopers (indigenous people), then the location for the first Dutch fort-come-postal depot and it is also the site where Eve’s footprint was discovered.
We will enjoy lunch in true West Coast fashion; a seafood braai (BBQ) on the beach, at Die Strandloper Restaurant. Be sure not to spoil your appetite on snacks earlier in the day, as you wouldn’t want to miss a single one of their finger licking 8-10 course meals prepared for you. Here we will eat, drink and be merry for the afternoon, while listening to the waves and some live traditional West Coast entertainment on guitar. Bring your bathing suits along, if you think you might feel brave in-between courses. And if you (like so many others) struggle to leave this easy life atmosphere after lunch, we can stay for sundowners, but then we have to head back to Cape Town.
